Superfight Series 21 Results (Spoiler): Ashley Epps vs. Maurice Greene

The first knockout of the Superfight Series 21 card was a big one, a one-punch walk-off KO which had the recipient face-plant and almost do a full forward roll, such was the completeness of his separation from consciousness.

Two big men and both natural heavyweights but they went at a high pace from the start, Epps looking to use his head and body kicks as Greene worked from the outside and looked to establish his jab and punch combinations.

Epps hit the floor early but only because Greene stepped in and jammed one of his kick attempts, making him fall over. Shortly afterwards he put him down properly, stepping in on a kick attempt again but this time hitting him with a right hand as he did so.

He didn’t appear to be noticeably rocked by the knockdown but it did put him on the defensive. Greene swarmed him and they moved around the ring before ending up against the ropes. Greene swung for the fences, missing on a right hand and then coming back with a left shovel hook to the chin.

That one landed clean and Epps went down instantly, folding forwards and almost rolling before deflating into a prone position. Greene had already walked away and was in a neutral corner roaring his success at the crowd while the referee was waving the fight off and calling for a doctor.

Officials timed the finish at 2:12 of the first round, putting Greene 2-0 in GLORY and earning him his first KO win in the organization. Afterwards he said he is looking to get busy and wants to climb the heavyweight ladder.

“That’s what we worked on. Keep distance and establish jab, let him know from the beginning that  this was my fight to win,” he said in his post-fight interview.

“I fought at GLORY 11 CHICAGO, I won but it wasn’t a great performance. My goal here tonight was to show GLORY something and show that I am here and that I want to fight for them.”
