Wilnis on Pereira: ā€œIā€™m just better than him everywhere, Iā€™m dangerous f...

Wins over Israel Adesanya, Simon Marcus and Yousri Belgaroui may have fans looking at Alex ā€˜Po Atanā€™ Pereira (29-6, 17 KOā€™s) as the middleweight divisionā€™s dominant new force, but former middleweight champion Jason ā€˜Psychoā€™ Wilnis (31-9-1, 9 KOā€™s) isnā€™t overly impressed.Ā  Ā  Wilnis holds two wins over the current GLORY middleweight champion: a 2012 win by TKO in Brazil and a GLORY 20 DUBAI win by unanimous decision.Ā  Ā  Since that Dubai meeting, Pereira has gone on to capture the GLORY middleweight title and make three defenses of it. Now heā€™s bringing his belt to GLORY 65 UTRECHT, which is taking place in Wilnisā€™ home city, and looking to settle a score.Ā  Ā  ā€œHeā€™s got two losses to me and thatā€™s why he wants to fight me, but actually heā€™s coming all the way from Brazil to my home city to lose to me a third time and deliver the belt back where it belongs,ā€ shrugs Wilnis.Ā  Ā  ā€œHeā€™s beaten Marcus, Yousri and Adesanya but heā€™s not been able to beat me. Maybe my style is just [very effective] against him. I am just the better kickboxer. Iā€™m a smarter thinker, stronger, faster. Iā€™m just better everywhere - I am dangerous for him. Ā  ā€œBut I cannot take him lightly, nothing is easy in this sport. You have to be 100% if you want to win. Heā€™s a lot better than he was the first and second time I fought him. More experienced, stronger skills. He became a better fighter and thatā€™s why heā€™s the champion.ā€ Ā  While Pereira comes to the Netherlands looking to avenge those losses, Wilnis has his eyes on getting the belt back around his waist. Ā  ā€œIn our game, if you want to talk [about yourself] and say youā€™re the best, you need to be holding the belt, otherwise donā€™t talk,ā€ says Wilnis. Ā  ā€œThe GLORY belt is the most important in the whole sport of kickboxing. When itā€™s yours, that feeling is indescribable. Everyone at your weight is now below you, everyone who doubted you or talked bad about you must now be quiet.Ā  Ā  ā€œAnd to fight in your home city is special. All my friends and family are here, my home is here. Itā€™s a beautiful city and itā€™s a special event for me because itā€™s where me and my brother were born and raised.ā€ Ā  GLORY 65 UTRECHT takes place Friday, May 17 at the Central Studios in Utrecht, Netherlands. In addition to this middleweight title fight, the card also hosts a lightweight title showdown between Sitthichai and ever-present rival Marat Grigorian. Ā  GLORY 65 also features key contender clashes between rising stars Tyjani Beztati and Josh Jauncey and a middleweight encounter between Yoursi Belgaroui and Donovan Wisse, who has made a big impact during his short time in the division.
