Londt returns after a year: “A win will open people’s eyes again"

Ismael Londt returns to GLORY this week for the first time since his GLORY 36 GERMANY decision loss to Jamal Ben Saddik in December last year.    Londt suffered a bad injury in the second round of that fight - his left bicep tore through separated from his arm - and though he bravely battled on to the final bell, he had to go into surgery three days later to repair the damage.    “I’ve been recovering my arm [injury]. The bicep tendon was cut off, I think the worst injury I’ve ever had. Broken toes and stuff don’t count. This was the first time I was ever in surgery. It was weird,” he smiles.   Six months of rehabilitation followed before he was able to return to training. During the layoff he thought long and hard about his future and his place in the sport. As a result, he elected to return to training with Mike’s Gym in Amsterdam, having last trained there in 2013.    “I decided to return to Mike’s Gym because I felt like I lost a little bit of myself. When I got back in the gym with Mike, he said [specifics about] those things [I had lost from my game] and I was like, ‘oh yeah, you’re right!” reveals Londt.    “The difference with Mike’s Gym is that some trainers focus on what they think s good and Mike Passenier focuses on what your best points are. There is no ring rust at Mike’s Gym because you are always training for a fight with someone and every Thursday you are fighting.”   Now, days out from his first professional fight for a year, Londt has his eyes firmly on victory over D’Angelo Marshall and he knows what he wants from it.   “A win will open people’s eyes again, show that I am back,” he smiles.
