Yuhang Xie (11-2, 5 KO's) looked to be having a bad time of it in the first round as Chris Mauceri (9-5, 4 KO's) battered him around the ring in one-sided fashion.
It looked like Maurceri was going to steamroll the Chinese youngster but then twenty seconds before the end of the round Xie burst from his defensive shell with a short overhand right that went over the top of Mauceri's jab and dropped him.
That made for a 10-8 round for Xie and meant that Mauceri would have to win the next two rounds on the judges' cards just to score a draw and get the fight taken to an extra round.
He needed to take clear control of the second round but found it difficult, Xie matching him blow for blow in a close three minutes with little to choose between them, Mauceri scoring 67 strikes landed and Xie scoring 62.
At the onset third round Mauceri had blood pouring from his nose, adding to Xie's confidence. The blood was soon liberally spread across Mauceri's torso as they matched each other blow for blow. A frenetic pace having been set over the previous two rounds, things slowed a little in the final round but both fighters still furiously chased a finish.
Mauceri spent the whole fight looking to land his favored body shot, which has stopped opponents in the past, but he couldn't quite find the sweet spot on Xie. The young Chinese fighter clearly felt one or two of them but wasn't hurt enough to go down; he would fire back immediately and put the pressure right back on the New Yorker.
Things were close in the final two rounds but the judges saw a clear winner, four of them scoring every round for Xie and one of them seeing one of the three rounds for Mauceri. With his gloves covered in blood but not a scratch on him, Xie scored a unanimous decision win in his GLORY debut to announce his entrance into the division.
